HISTORY
History of Rescue M.A.R.C.H. Challenge

The Rescue M.A.R.C.H. Challenge (RMC) was conceptualized in 2014 by Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) advocate Martin Aguda Jr. as a bold response to the catastrophic scenarios projected in the Metro Manila Earthquake Impact Reduction Study (MMEIRS). Designed to replicate conditions after a major disaster, RMC challenges responders to travel on foot from a staging area to ground zero, carrying their rescue gear, medical supplies, and survival kits — a true "Rescue March."

The first RMC was conducted in partnership with the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and the Quezon City DRRMO, covering the route from Bonifacio Global City to Quezon City Memorial Circle.

Over the past 11 years, RMC has evolved into a nationwide movement with 17 events held across the Philippines. Many Local Government Units (LGUs) have embraced it as a core component of their disaster preparedness programs.

Now officially registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), RMC remains driven by a committed team of DRR professionals and advocates — continuing its mission to Challenge the endurance of responders, Check their readiness, and foster Camaraderie among disaster response teams.
